THE 3rd EAST AFRICA REGIONAL CONFERENCE ON SOCIAL WORK AND SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT



Tanzania is the first country to host the International Social work conference which bring together different countries across the East African Regions. 

Dr. Zena Mabeyo from Institute of Social Work and the President of TASWO as well as PROSOWO team, during the opening speech of the 3rd East Africa Regional Conference on Social Work and Social Development.

During the welcome speech Dr. Zena Mabeyo - the president of Tanzania Social Workers Association at Lush garden Hotel, she said that she feel honored and in need happy to host the 1st country and the 3rd East African International Conference of social work while we are on the sixth decade of the professional practice.

Social work profession has a long history in EAC, as in Tanzania it begun in 1947, and it was not until 1998 in Rwanda and 2004 in Burundi that was initiated respectively. Although the profession contributing toward solving pertinent individual and community problems in the communities of EAC, but the major question that remains unanswered is to what extent is this known by key policy and decision makers?

Despite inadequate understanding the profession still have the common professional challenges within those EAC, which includes that the profession is not very strong, is not widely used by the target population, is not regulated/protected by law, is inadequately financed, over relies on western models and literature, in not well informed by the indigenous empirical evidence and does not fully translate and integrate the developmental approach, says Dr. Zena Mabeyo.

Therefore the aim of this International conference is to share and learn from each others experiences as well as dialogue about the impact and implications of global transformations into our local realities.

This is a two day conference which held after the yesterday social work days commemorated here in Arusha and the key note speaker were expected to be Dr. Gidraph Wairire of University of Nairobi, Prof. Janestic Twikirize from Burundi, Prof. Helmut Spitzer of Carinthia University of Applied Social Science - Austria, Charles Rutikanga of the University of Rwanda and Prof. Zena Berhanu from Addis Ababa University.

During the closing speech the Guest of Honor, Hon. Agustine Mahinga (Minister), he said that, Economic Development should also move in line with Social Development and social workers are the drivers of that development, and advice social workers to put more effort using collective action, because social workers are the Social Engineers, and documents has to be prepared to be presented in the Parliament and he would like to be the Ambassador for social workers.

WORLD'S SOCIAL WORK DAY COMMEMORATED IN ARUSHA

Today the 15th March is the world social work day and in Tanzania it is commemorated in Arusha with the theme "Promoting the Dignity and Worth of Peoples" along side with Social Work and Social Development.

This day creates another opportunity for the profession to express international solidarity and to bring common messages to governments, regional bodies, and to our communities, to understand this profession and what the serviced offered.

To commemorate the day, the marching starts from Arusha Regional Commissioners Office towards Sheikh Amri Abeid Karume Stadium. Social welfare officers from different Districts and Regions attended in the event, including students and Lecturers from  the universities that provide social work curriculum that is the Institute of Social work Dar es salaam, Mwenge University - Moshi, Zanzibar University, Hubert Kairuki Memorial University and Open University of Tanzania.

Also participants from East African countries and Regional wise were attended from  Congo - DRC, Rwanda, Burundi, Uganda, Kenya, Ethiopia, Austria and the Host Tanzania.













The guest of Honor was expected to be a Arusha Regional Commissioner but he was represented by the Commissioner for Social Welfare, and the special remarks was presented by the president of Associations of School of Social Workers in Africa Dr. Gidraph Wairire (the first on the left who sited in the first row)

The events was followed by the East Africa Regional Students Summit to discuss the role of students in the NASW and Development and share the testimonies from DRC Congo, Rwanda and Burundi on how the social work was started, and how they succeed to motivate students to participate on social work activities through their own contribution.

The themes for this year comes form the Global Agenda for Social Work and Social Development, when social work practitioners, educators and development workers over three thousand, meet in Hong Kong in June 2010 and decide to launch a global movement that addresses the major challenges of our societies. 

Based on the decisions reached at the Hong Kong conference, the leadership of the three International Organizations that is International Federation of Social Workers (IFSW), International Association of Schools of Social Work (IASSW), and the International Council of Social Welfare (ICSW) representing the entire spectre of Social Work Practice, Social Work Education and Social Development work globally, have agreed on a set of objectives to meet our joint aspirations for social justice and social development.

VIONGOZI WA SERIKALI YA WANAFUNZI ISWOSO NA WANACHUO WA CHUO CHA USTAWI WA JAMII KATIKA ZIARA YA MAFUNZO MAKAO MAKUU YA AIRTEL - DAR ES SALAAM



Viongozi wa serikali ya wanafunzi ya chuo cha ustawi wa jamii - ISWOSO pamoja na wanachuo wengine, wamefanya ziara ya mafunzo kwenye  makao makuu ya kampuni ya mawasiliano ya simu za mkononi - Airtel kujionea bidhaa mbalimbali na huduma zinazotolewa na kampuni hiyo.

Wanachuo wakielekezwa teknolojia mpya ya huduma kwa wateja ambapo badala ya mteja kupanga foleni na kusubiri kuhudiwa kuhusiana na huduma mbalimbali, kuna computer maalum zimeandaliwa na mteja mwenyewe anaelekezwa namna ya kujihudumia kulingana na huduma anayoihidaji mfano, huduma za Airtel money, vifurushi na huduma nyinginezo.

Airtel pia hutuo fursa za ubunifu kwa vijana na watu wa rika zote kama amebuni teknolojia mpya ambayo anahisi anaweza kushare nao au kuiuza na wakati mwingine kuwa consultancy, anaweza peleka wazo lake na likajadiliwa na team ya Airtel, na ikionekana inamashiko basi mbunifu atapata fursa ya kuingia mkataba na Airtel kuhusiana na huduma hiyo. Hangout ni sehemu maalum ya makutano hayo ya kujadili


 Baadhi ya viongozi wa serikali ya wanafunzi wakiwa sehemu ya Hangout, kujifunza namna Airtel wanavyowajali wateja wao wa ngazi tofauti (Mwenye shasimu mkononi aliyekaa ni waziri mkuu wa serikali ya wanafunzi - ISWOSO Mheshimiwa Maurice Bendera na anayetazama kamera mwenye shati jeupe ni waziri wa fedha Mheshimiwa Nyalusi).

Pia wanachuo walipata fursa ya kipekee ya kuelezewa huduma mpya ya kadi ya malipo maarufu kama TAP TAP - Gusa Usepe, ambapo mteja anayetumia huduma ya Airtel money anaweza kutumia kadi hii kwa malipo yake, wakati akinunua bidhaa mbalimbali katika maeneo ambayo huduma hii inafanya kazi badala ya kutembea na fedha mkononi. Kwa kuanzia huduma hii TAP TAP - Gusa Usepe inapikana jijijini Dar es salaa, katika Supermarket ya TSN (moja ya supermarket hiyo ipo jirani na Chuo cha Ustawi wa Jamii), hivyo ni fursa pekee pia kwa wanachuo na wengineo, kutumia huduma hiyo nzuri na ya haraka, na inapatikana hata kama simu yako haina chaji, ili mradi tu, uwe na salio lako  la Airtel money, na uwe na kumbukumbu na ya namba yako ya siri.

Mmoja wa vijana waliopata fursa kutoka Airtel ambaye alikuwa ni mwanachuo katika chuo cha usimamizi wa fedha IFM, akitoa ushuhuda wake kwa wanachuo wenzake namna alivyofanikiwa.

Mbali na huduma hizo pia, Airtel kwa sasa imezindua Modem ya kipekee ya wingle na WiFi, ambayo inawezesha wateja wake kufurahia huduma za internet na Wi-Fi kwa pamoja yenye uwezo wa kuunganisha zaidi ya vifaa 10 kwa wakati mmoja.

Ni wakati wako sasa kujiunga na mtandano wa Airtel wenye huduma nafuu, huduma za kukopa na kulipa kwa gharama nafuu itakayokuwezesha kujikwamua kwa mambo mbalimbali na pia kufaidika na huduma za UNI kwa wanachuo ambayo imeboreshwa na ni gharama nafuu.
